At the ALTO plastic packaging plant in Albany, the plant now processes 100% cleaned post-consumer sheets into 100% food contact grade single-layer thermoformed sheets. In New Zealand, this milestone represents the first system installed for this particular application. Plastic packaging company ALTO, a division of the PACT Group, invested in this new food-grade PET sheet extrusion line as part of the Pact Group’s vision to lead the circular economy through packaging in Australia and New Zealand.

Due to the direct combination of the Vacationma PET recycling technology and the AMUT Inline Sheet production technology, no additional process stages are required. This is because the melt enters the AMUT equipment directly from the Vacationma 1716 T Basic, without the need for bypassing to pelletize. The post-consumer PET material has been purified and pre-dried in the vacuum reactor of Vacurema Basic before being extruded, with an output of up to 1,500 kg per hour. After high-capacity filtration with Erema's SW-RTF recoil filter and online IV measurement, the melt directly enters the AMUT online board factory, where it is processed into thermoformed boards with a thickness of 0.15 mm to 1.2 mm. The single-layer thermoformed sheet produced from pure rPET not only meets 100% food contact standards, but also meets FDA and further regulations. At ALTO, it is further processed into trays and food containers.

AMUT has played a role by providing a full range of downstream equipment, from automatic Tdie, three-roll stacking calender with automatic gap control and electric cross-axis device, laminating device for welding and barrier film, thickness controller to anti-static silicon Coating device, automatic two-axis turret winder and online trimming, grinding and recycling.

The characteristics of the extrusion line come from the complete automation and simple management of the production line. This is because the new Amut software includes Easy Start and Easy Change functions, allowing the operator to start the extrusion line in automatic mode and change the product format.

Erema and AMUT are long-term partners in the field of inline sheets. Erema's Vacurema technology is currently used in more than 100 online sheet factories worldwide, as well as in Australia's PACT group of companies.
