INSIDE TRACK: Warewashing solutions that make 'disposable' cups and containers a thing of the past

2022-07-15 21:13:52 By : Ms. Serena shi

Everybody from takeaways and restaurants to event caterers, stadia, educaterers and contractors is moving to using more sustainable drinksware and takeaway food containers.

Disposables are going! And Meiko provides re-usable cup and container washing solutions from machines that wash thousands per hour, to a single rack at a time.

“The pressure is on from government and consumers to do something about catering waste, especially plastic, and caterers need to find solutions to keep ahead of the game,” says Paul Anderson, managing director of Meiko UK.

“Cups and takeaway containers will become reusable, as the government wants, and no longer ‘disposable.’ Meiko is a washing specialist – has been for 90 years-plus. Give us anything in shape, size, quantity, and we will find a way to wash it hygienically, from any type of crockery or cutlery to aircraft trolleys, large plastic food boxes, pots, and pans and even giant Thali trays.

“But washing reusable cups made us look outside of the box because cup and container washing is more about drying than the washing. Now we are a drying specialist too because you cannot store plastics wet because they will become mouldy and unhygienic very quickly.”

Blue Planet Washing Solutions at Gatwick international distribution centre uses Meiko equipment to clean thousands of reusable cups each day. Click on the video below to find out more:

Meiko M-iQ cup washing machine

The Meiko M-iQ Cup Washing Machine is tuned to handle plastic-ware, from cups to take-away food containers. The most important function of the cup washer is not the washing, but the drying.

Vibration and drying sections of the dishwasher ensure that water droplets are shaken off the cups after washing, which can then be stacked straight away without compromising hygiene.

Meiko says its cup washing system provides the ‘Perfect drying result (0 % residual moisture). And because the cups are cool when they leave the machine, they will not stick together when stored. Washing capacity of the Meiko M-iQ Cup Washing Machine is up to 8,400 cups/h (DIN-compliant).
