Demolition of the JC building for the planned Vision Credit Union project

Visions Federal Credit Union appears to be working on a project to establish an elevator-free branch on Main Street in Johnson City.

On Wednesday, Gorick construction workers demolished a building used as a medical and dental clinic.

The Endicott-based credit union acquired the property in March 2020 for approximately US$360,000.

Visions submitted a plan to the Johnson City Planning Commission in February last year, indicating that the credit union wanted to build a small office on the site.

The proposal calls for a 60 ft x 25 ft building with no on-site parking lot. The municipal parking lot is located across the street from the site. Small offices will not provide door-to-door service by car.

Johnson City Mayor Greg Deemie stated that he believes Visions' plans for the Main Street and Arch Street venues are "positive."

The credit union now has a branch office about a mile east of the planned location of the new building.

A Visions representative could not be reached on Thursday to discuss the project.
