Letters to the Editor Tuesday, March 29 – The Daily Gazette

2022-05-21 14:31:12 By : Ms. Joanna Yuen

Put environment above convenience New York was right in implementing its ban on Styrofoam products, especially single use beverage and food containers which easily break apart and turn into small pieces of toxic litter that scatter into the air, soil and waterways. The Daily Gazette’s March 2 story (“Ice cream shops frosty over ban”) on vendors lamenting the ban of Styrofoam containers is an example of foregoing our environment and public health over the economic convenience of businesses, who often leave municipalities and taxpayers responsible for the costly disposal of harmful “forever chemicals” found in their products. The Environmental Protection Agency and Department of Environmental Conservation have long cited Styrofoam as a source of water pollution that carries hazardous substances into marine ecosystems. New York implemented the nation’s most stringent laws to prohibit polystyrene, because the toxic material does not readily biodegrade, and its chemical components are shown to negatively impact wildlife, plants, and humans. Polystyrene is not accepted in most recycling programs and does not support sustainable waste management. New York’s law allows for the use of any food and beverage container that does not contain expanded polystyrene foam. Amsterdam-based Hill and Markes should be applauded for seeking alternatives to Styrofoam and educating concessions and take-out restaurants on reusable, recyclable and compostable food containers. Banning the use of Styrofoam and foam packaging peanuts we will eliminate an annoying source of plastic pollution and environmental harm to wildlife and humans. We can’t last three more years of Biden We have a president who is courageous beyond belief, who is honest, loves his country and its people. Oh wait, that’s not our president, that’s Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Our president, President Biden, thinks the American people are as stupid as he is as he lies his way through the day. At first blaming the oil companies, the shippers, the meat packers, the supermarkets, the drug companies, what next, Mickey Mouse? On day one he declared war on American energy, shutting down the Keystone Pipeline, drilling in Alaska, offshore drilling, and drilling on public lands. We have more oil, gas, and coal in this country than any other country on Earth. But can we use them? No. Joe wants to appease the Chicken Little crowd of the Green New Scam. Speaking of appeasing, what’s he going to wait for, his pal Putin to bomb Warsaw before he does something beyond his phony sanctions? That’s like having a friend being beaten with a baseball bat and telling them you will be back in a month to see if they’re OK. But wait kids, there’s more. Coma man’s second in command, joker in a pantsuit, can cackle her way across Latin America and now Europe. What a disgrace. I don’t fear annihilation of this country by Putin’s nuclear arms anywhere near as much as I do this disgraceful, inept, dishonest administration. The worst ever. Brush up on your Mandarin and Russian, boys and girls. We might not last another three years. God help our country. Ray Weidman Latham

Guy you are correct including the pleading of ignorance on the topic of a burner phone and we really must throw in his unbelievable call out to Vlad for dirt on Biden guess the plan hasn’t quite played out yet now onto Ukraine 2.0 ? What country did Donnie serve up next?or as most of us know is it just more of an attempt at distraction from the phone logs ? That doddering donnie is such an incorrigible big imp! Absolutely revolting

I know it to be indisputable fact that the earth is flat. Nothing anyone can say or do will ever convince me otherwise. End of story, now act accordingly.

Anthony, A Guardian opinion piece by Robert Reich who usually is a little preachy for me sometimes is in line what you wrote about in your last post below mine. A good comparison in my opinion of all the parties mentioned in the headline.

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2022/mar/29/putin-trump-tucker-carlson-republican-party

Why do Putin, Trump, Tucker Carlson and the Republican party sound so alike?

I guess a 7 hour gap in the White hous communication log isn’t news worthy her. Nothing to see just move along?

Those of us old enough to remember the 18 minute gap in Nixon’s tapes of oval office conversations, and how Nixon’s secretary contorted herself physically to show how it could have “unintentionally” realize the significance of a 7 happened, hour gap in the White House communication log that occurred just before during and after the violence of 1/6. This is no coincidence and is evidence that Trump and his entourage were involved in planning and carrying out the insurrection which was a backup plan should Pence refuse (as he did) to play his critical role in Navarro’s illegal Green Bay Sweep designed to throw the election into the House of Representatives, where Trump could have stolen the election.

“unintentionally” happened, should be followed by “realize the significance of a 7 hour gap….” I don’t know how I mixed that up but it is getting late and my typing skills are not great.

In the infamous words of Ricky Ricardo….lots of splaining to do there Donnie!

We can change the channel on Trump if I am reading some comments from the right for President.

We have choices for what Republican you would vote for in 24. Obvious question would be what Democrat would you vote for if FG did win nomination again and run ?

timely and many will consider this unfortunate

As a add to what I wrote about the new law “Don’t say Gay” and for once Democrats are using good and relentless messaging. This law is purely political theater. What was way more harmful to the teachers, staff, school boards and administrators was the out of control parents who weren’t complaining about any of what was being taught but mask wearing. People showed up in front of School Board chairpersons house with bull horns, Again not protesting about what books or teaching were being done to K-3 and higher, but Sally and Joey had to wear as mask.

To some post above about what people care about in the voting booth. It was 10 % one side 10% the other 80 % no clue was the poll I have seen.

I was hoping that we were past all the gay stuff. It seemed as though society in general was okay with all those issues. I guess not. I agree that it was all about political theater. The message that it sends is that being gay is taught and not natural . At the risk of sounding silly, I have a lot of gay friends and family and there is zero doubt in my mind that people are simply born this way. They don’t recruit! In fact my favorite boss of all time when I worked in radio back in the 80’s and 90’s was gay. No big deal at all! It’s just sad and ignorant that people think otherwise.

It’s a big deal now that Evangelic leaders, partnered with various other right wing, fake Christians have found a ready source of cash if they keep their flocks agitated and fearful…of something, anything. They can name anything, especially complicated things, demonize it and the cash plates and church coffers fill right up.

Florida2015, The reactionary Trump supporters, they are not conservatives, are easily influenced by divisive messages which create fear of people who are not like them. This is a tried and true fascist tactic that unfortunately works well in a subset of any large population. LGBTQ people are easy targets and and attacking them, subtly or overtly, can really advance an unscrupulous politician’s career. They long for the good old days when everyone knew his place and for LGBTQ people that was the closet or a jail cell. For many minorities it meant living in de facto segregated ghettos and doing the lowest paying toughest jobs.

anthony As you probably know Hitler who many suspected of being gay also persecuted the gay community the Roma the disabled and more absolutely frightening to see this type of nonsense spreading again

Guessing President Biden doesn’t know this is happening so he can make them refine it into gas instead.

U.S. oil exports surge, drawing crude away from storage hub

Mr Mahoney, Your job would be the proverbial herding cats. Thankless to say the least. But thanks anyway.

Zachary, You sound like a very involved parent with your children’s education and hope you were before covid caused so many parents to realize what at hard job teaching is. Your statements about the new law assumes teachers would be asking and teaching these “banned” subjects to K-3. Also in the law is the age appropriate clause that allows for anyone to interpret what is appropriate for children above 3rd grade. With that the teacher and school are now able to be sued (also in the law) if a parent believes what Sally or Joey came home to talk about was not appropriate in there the parents mind. More conservative and religious believers can now interpret that different than you or I might. A lawyers dream, which unsuspecting and totally innocent taxpayers will be on the hook to defend those allegations. Not to say the original reason besides political playing to the base weren’t without merit. The lawsuits to stop it have if not already been filed or will be shortly. Mostly on the grounds as I explained with the language about the age appropriate after third grade being to broad and vague. You or I would interpret it totally different if we teachers or parents of students above 3rd grade I’m sure.

Spot on, FL, regarding Mr. Mahoney and this forum. The DG deserves high praise for providing this commenting forum, and the emergence of a movement that has no hesitation to post statements devoid of anything but emotion has compounded the challenge to keep it civil.

The histrionics in Florida and elsewhere are a continuation of the shrill screams of a minority who think they know what the Bible says, and they alone should dictate for everyone else. I came through 13 years in a local public school system (K-12) and we never heard from these people even as we read horrible books like Catcher in the Rye, and Catch-22, and To Kill a Mockingbird, and watched To Sir with Love. It’s only been in the past ten years or so, with the rise of the evangelical enabling them, that they’ve felt free to try to tell us all how we’re destroying this (White) world. And that’s deplorable.

I expect backlash from my opinions. But I do expect a counter opinion to be based in facts like mine are. I hear repeatedly about how Biden made oil prices rise. But always ask how Biden controls world oil prices. I never get an answer that is factual. If I hurt anyone’s feelings I apologize it was not my intention. My intention was to point out how nonfactual your letter or comment was/is. Peace Out

Ray – the WSJ bashed Trump for his entire term.

It wants me to pay to read it

Sorry let me try and find a free version of WSJ.

Murdock = Fox, NY Post, WSJ. All untrustworthy though sometimes the WSJ breaks out somehow.

Mr varoma I’m not sure what you’re apologizing about I for one have found your postings factual and very informative especially in the area of energy indepence an area in which there is an overwhelming need for factual information and education. The simple fact that Biden does not control oil prices despite it being stated at least 5 times daily on this board that he does should more than clarify that need. People often make inaccurate statements over and over and over. The problem arises when others are mislead to believe thosese statements simply because the individual refuses to do their research and -to beat a dead horse use critical thinking skills. Once again kudos Mr varoma for your efforts to educate not only myself but others!

Let’s be real. Biden never really had a lot of passionate support to begin with. The Dem’s consolidated their support in the interests of defeating DJT. I have said it before many times…”We aren’t getting the best version of Joe”. I also think that most Biden voters believed that he was a bridge President , meaning a 1 term President to get us through to a new President and a new era. I totally get the anti Biden sentiment as things are not that great right now. We can debate all day long about whose fault it is and all that but the bottom line is that he is just not perceived as sharp and decisive and overall doing a great job. I am hoping and praying for 2 new candidates in 2024. For those still supporting Trump after all that you know about him….I will never ever understand that! It’s okay to admit you were wrong and throw your support behind a new R candidate. The R’s probably have a better bench than the Dem’s do at least at this point.

Doug, several Democratic senators are moderate and I believe could win in 2024: Chris Coons, John Tester, Tim Carper, and independent Angus King who caucuses with the Democrats are among them. Former Montana Governor Steve Bullock is a possibility.

My personal choice would be Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown. He tilts progressive but is considerably more moderate than the A.O.C. wing of the Democratic party. I actually favor the Bernie Sanders-A.O.C. progressive programs but see little chance of any of them winning a presidential election. Being a pragmatist as well as progressive, I plan to vote for a moderate progressive in the primaries like Senator Brown.

I do like all the guys that you mentioned. Just saw Tester on Bill Maher. Great guy. Always admired Brown as well. I don’t know if any of them are even interested in the Presidency. None of them have the dynamic personality that seems to be what the American public seems to like. Steve Bullock is probably the closest to meeting that unofficial requirement. There is still time to sort this all out and hopefully someone will emerge from the pack. I generally prefer Governors because they have management experience , not a hard and fast rule however.

Listen to a speech of Biden from 10 years ago or so and compare that to today. He’s to old to be in the position he’s in. It happens to the best of us, father time catches up with you and you lose your moxy. Personally, I think there should be an age cutoff for President, congress, and Senate. 80 years old is to old to be leader of the free world IMO.

Yes he’s older, but still works his ass off every day. He had just spent time with the suffering in that last speech and witnessed devasration. Listen to the words he truly believes…older people can be very wise.

Not set on an age – but I do think there should be a cognitive pass/fail like they do with drivers license, pilots licenses, etc

I find agism and other forms of discrimination to be revolting based on principle.

Thats the beauty of an opinion sir. You have yours and I have mine. It’s a beautiful thing if you think about it.

Mr. Hampton, I hope Trump does not run again, I have said before my hope is for DeSantis and Noem. But, if it’s Trump or Biden I’m voting Trump and I bet lot’s of democrats will be doing the same.

If you are dead set on a Republican – Please look to a more moderate Republican – maybe SC Senator Tim Scott, or someone that has a pro LBGTQ stance. I can overlook many faults if the good out weighs the bad but this latest bill that passed in FL sealed the deal for me on Governor DeSantis.

If I could lab create a president- someone with moderate views, grace, and temperament but that has also been in one of our branches of the military. She/He believes in hand ups not hand outs and wants our planet to be around in 50 years.

Mr. Vendetti did you read that bill? It says you can’t speak about transgender issues from preschool through third grade. Do you want your child’s teachers talking to your five year old about being a girl instead of a boy?

Zachary, What evidence do you have that “most liberals…believe you know how we think according to how you think, we don’t.” Also could you clarify that statement?

As I noted above the community should be involved in all phases of the educational decision-making process through elected school boards working with professional educators. There is nothing standing in the way of families having their own discussions about what is being covered in the classroom. Obviously parents can add their perspective. But there must be some community agreement on curriculum and materials. No one person/group has the final say except elected boards and professional educators. Parents are encouraged to go to board meeting and express their views in a responsible and peaceful way.

When you and others like you act out and try to legislate your religious beliefs on everyone else, by trying to ban books from the school library or curriculum, or try to intimidate school boards to force them to your way of thinking, by trying to intimidate teachers to teach as only you approve, you are trying to shield kids from the things that scare you, and you alone.

There is no mass disapproval of these books or these subjects, it’s only a small, but very noisy minority with intolerant religious standards. This is the public school system, with an emphasis on “public”.

And I’ll add as a side note: one of the core principles I’ve tried to carry over from my upbringing is that dinnertime is the most important part of the day and is the time for open, non-judgemental discussion, debate and deliberation. Whatever else is going on, dinnertime is sacred. Every day as practical.

The problem with you and most liberals is you believe you know how we think according to how you think, we don’t. Nobody said that we are putting up shields about anything, I have had those talks as has my wife with each of our children, we have had them separately and as a family discussion. As a family everyone has an opinion and a say in everything that affects us as a family, each child has a vote and as parents we have a vote and a half. So if the three kids want something that my wife and I don’t want we have to discuss it until one side can talk someone over to the other side, our family votes and discussions are great fun to watch.

I should have noted that decisions governing public education should be made by elected school boards in consultation with professional educators and not a forum for political protest and violence, from the right or the left.

I am re-posting a previous comment as an illustration of why we need sex education in our schools and that it should include LGBTQ issues. From the twitter account of Representative Madison Cawthorn:

Madison Cawthorn: “When we have a Sup Ct nominee who says she can’t define what a woman is, what has our country come to? It’s so easy – XX chromosome, no talkywhacker.” Video on Twitter

A large segment of our population, millions of Americans, are lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender. To teach acceptance and respect for these Americans is critical as they so often feel isolated, suicidal, and disrespected, and unable to be themselves. Of course classroom discussions and materials should be age appropriate. Rep. Cawthorn’s ignorance of the fact that some are born with ambiguous genitalia is alarming in a lawmaker but likely widespread and evidence of the need for education as there are also people born with gender confusion sometimes related to hormonal imbalances but more often related to this problem found on a google search:

“Gender incongruence can also become noticeable during puberty,” Hormone Health Network says. “This is where one’s gender identity doesn’t match up with one’s body. For individuals with gender incongruence, experiencing pubertal body changes can contribute to emotional distress called gender dysphoria.”

These individuals should not be left alone to suffer at the hands of an uneducated and prejudiced population.

I haven’t read “Lawn Boy” but I have read reviews of it, and the complaints. It appears this book is not meant for elementary school aged kids so I don’t see the connection to what we’re talking about, K-3. And I see no where that it ‘promotes homosexuality’. It may discuss it though and I can assure you, as a parent myself and with clear memories of my teens, this is a subject kids want to know about and to know how to process as they see it in the world around them.

Far be it from me or anyone to tell you how to parent your kids, but I can also promise you that whatever shields you try to build around them, they will make their own decisions and they will see through your shields. And they will also see through hysterical attempts to deny everyone a full education for the religious beliefs of a few.

Lawnboy opens, quite literally, with a bang — at least of the sexual variety. The narrator, 17-year-old Evan, is a budding homosexual whose life so far has consisted only of crushes and occasional jollying around with other curious boys.Dec 10, 1999

It’s not being paranoid, I believe Duanesburg and Schenectady and others have the book called “Lawn Boy” it is a book promoting homosexuality and its in hundreds of school districts for kids to download and read or just check out at their local school. Parents want to parent their children, they don’t want others that may not share their values or politics talking to their kids about sex and politics. That is a pretty simple concept.

“When did the schools decide that they should take on the role of parents.” If you can’t see the paranoia in that statement….

Nobody said anyone is out to get anyone else, you are again putting words in my mouth. How do you know a parent is not doing their job, my one child is inquisitive and will ask three people the same question to see what they all say, does that mean we are not parenting? Tell the parents in Georgia and New Jersey they have a victim mentality. One blue state almost turned red and a purple state did turn red. We are the parents, questions about sex and sexuality need to come from the parents and if the parents don’t want that responsibility then they can ask the teacher to do it when he or she calls them.

I don’t think either of them will be their parties candidates. Maybe that’s more hope than anything but that’s what I am routing for. I know this country can’t take another Trump Presidency and as I said before (at least for me) Biden was a bridge candidate and he will be 80 plus in 2024 so that’s where I stand on this matter.

Mr Hampton you may be correct I will add I think what many Americans found refreshing about Mr Biden was the degree of decency and morality he returned to the office of the President . After four years it was well past time to flush the nonsense -which the American people did with a resounding no thank you.! I find it hard to believe any but the most limited would yearn for a return to those nightmare years.

I’ve always found polls have a significant margin of error in this case that makes me extremely happy to know. As the war in Ukraine is resolved and inflation is inevitably brought under control as a result of Biden an Natos success as we all knowxit will be I’m betting we see a big swing in those numbers. Just my opinion!

I suppose this is why people can’t get Trump out of their heads. It says a lot about the current administration though, people are not happy with what’s going on today. I don’t blame them, I see the same thing.

Former President Trump is leading President Biden in a hypothetical 2024 match-up, according to a new Harvard CAPS-Harris Poll survey released exclusively to The Hill on Monday. If the 2024 presidential election were held right now, the poll finds Trump getting 47 percent support compared to 41 percent for Biden. Twelve percent of voters are undecided.

So we’re believing polls now? lol

November 2024 is a lifetime away in politics. The economy, and our lives will look much different by then. Hopefully better, maybe worse, we shall see. I wouldn’t hang my hat on a poll two years out that has a candidate only leading by 6 points to an incumbent with only a 30% approval. A Rasmussen poll from 2019 with a hypothetical rematch between Trump and Hillary had them tied.

Good point Whoville but my point is how does someone with Trump’s resume’ even have a chance? Don’t you think if the American people thought he was as evil as some portray him, then his number would be like 3% or 2%, not 47% and 6 points higher than the sitting President? Does that say anything to where people’s heads are with Biden right now? Yes I know it’s a poll and the election is in 2024 but it’s kind of telling IMO.

I agree totally with the importance of the question: “how does someone with Trump’s resume even have a chance?” I think it is in part because some people just don’t follow the news and are unaware of his character flaws and the many alleged criminal activities he has engaged in. I can not understand why he hasn’t been charged with an illegal attempt to alter a federal election on the basis of his call to Rathensperger.

There are some who see him as the savior of “white privilege” in America.

Others are more comfortable in an autocracy than a democracy because they would rather unite under a leader than accept the burdens that come with citizenship in a democracy; thinking for yourself on the basis of accurate information is not easy.

That was my point. People vote for more reasons than the typical things that we see. A crap load of them make no sense whatsoever but it’s their vote. That’s freedom man.

Mr. Santo I have to agree with you believe it or not, I wish more voters were informed. Take African Americans, for the most part they always vote Democrat because they believe the lies about Republicans and that is who their parents and grandparents voted for.

The more informed people are the more rational their votes are likely to be. Voting on the basis of emotions is not a good idea.

I never said or implied that any vote was more important than any other . Obviously each individual vote carries equal weight.

“So called factless and emotional votes are important.” They are because they carry as much weight as an informed voters ballot. But they can be very damaging to our national well-being. You can vote for Trump, ignoring his character flaws and incompetence, over Clinton because she called you a “deplorable”; that’s your choice. I just wish fewer people would vote on such a narrow issue as a candidate calling people a relatively benign, though insulting, name. There are so many more important issues that affect our country and the world than our hurt feelings.

Do you have any idea why people vote the way they do? I’ll bet if you took 100 voters and asked them, you’d probably get a ton of different reasons. Some will make sense, some won’t, some will align with your politics, some won’t, some will vote party only, some won’t, some vote with their wallet, some don’t. My point is, people don’t need to be educated on every national and international affair to cast a vote. No vote is better than the next one, the highly educated vote has no more importance than a young 19 year old’s who doesn’t really follow politics. So called factless and emotional opinions are important, the people who make them vote and their vote counts the same as yours. 1 person = 1 vote. Hillary was the one who called me a deplorable, the Hillary who didn’t become President. She should’ve used her southern accent and pretended that she could roll with the greentooth hilljack rednecks. After all she’s from Arkansas or is it NY?

Anthony this argument illustrates perfectly the need to address the type of misinformation bantered around by some experts for example ChuckD provided an appropriate and excellent response to the delicate essay written by Denise earlier. It would have been much easier for him to mirror her approach and just spew out more made up less than factual statements. He didn’t take that approach and I and I’m sure Denise will appreciate the effort he made. More importantly he may have mitigated the damage done by that common approach to the facts sparing a fellow American to a at best questionable version of reality

I must note that you called yourself a deplorable. I didn’t use the word in my post.

Why Trump hasn’t been charged is a national problem that will, hopefully, soon be resolved. We can’t function as a democracy if the rich and powerful are allowed to flaunt the law. No man should be allowed to attempt to interfere with the constitutional transfer of power and get away with it.

I do not think, and have never said, corruption is exclusive to the Republican party.

I think ignorance of national and international affairs is more widespread than you think.

I have never said you need my approval to express your views. You expressed your views in the post above and I responded. That’s how it works.

As a deplorable, I would have to disagree with all of what you’re saying. People are very aware of his character flaws, he had them before he was elected and it didn’t matter. These people do follow the news and they’re just as aware as you and I. The fact that you can’t understand why he hasn’t been charged is a personal issue for you. People who support Trump think the same thing about Biden and his son. I personally don’t know anyone who wants him to win because of white privilege but I’m sure there are those types of people. If you think it’s exclusive to the republican party then you are mistaken. Yes we can think for ourselves and we will. We don’t need any advise, help, constant reminders, so called facts, etc. That’s the part that you don’t understand, we don’t need your approval or anyone’s else. This is a free country and we’ll do what works for us. That in itself is a victory.

I think that we are all better served to not make things personal, and not just because the DG says so, but the dialogue will be far more meaningful to everyone. Do I think there are some outrageous and factually incorrect posts….of course… but snarkyness just escalates the anger and division between us and we ultimately get nowhere. I do wish the DG would be more scrupulous in the letters that they print (and not censorship just more accuracy and factual in the content). I do think we waste more time with all the needless back and forth banter and not enough time discussing the issues. My only rule for myself is that if I wouldn’t say it to your face , I don’t say it at all. I suggest that a few of you try it!

Mr Hampton you are correct I will take your comments a step further by stating in this time of international treachery on a grand scale for an American to bash the United States and our government on the public stage is questionable behavior at best I you’re offended by that opinion so be it. I don’t think the Russian media needs any help from American citizens or the American media but thats their choice . It’s just common sense. As to msnbcs accuracy there are plenty of other sources for factual information as I’ve said in the past critical thinking skills are easy to learn easier to apply and certainly the sign of a educated person.

Mr. Hampton, exactly, the only thing I would add to that is that this is an opinion page. My opinion may not be your opinion and someone can show me all of the proof they want from MSNBC but I don’t believe MSNBC to be factual so the proof means nothing. I and Mr. Wayne have been saying that it’s hurting this platform when people like Christopher attack a letter write like Denise and call her unamerican and stupid. Why would people want to send letters to get publicly abused by the four or five who regularly do the abusing on here and we all know who they are.

Yes Zachary that is very true. I personally avoid using any liberal perceived references for that exact reason. I feel about FOX the way that you do about MSNBC. If you have ever read my posts , you would know that I look at those that know him best….his own cabinet that he himself selected. The feelings by virtually all of them is revealing to put it mildly. I also look at truly Conservative writers and thinkers….again not flattering. So the dislike for Biden I get but I will never completely understand how anyone can continue to support the likes of Trump.

As scary as it may seem, the DG gives us a window into what people are thinking and in many cases what their grievances are which has been a common theme in the republican party for many years. Rarely do these grievers provide any sources other than a link or two to right-wing outlets that peddle lies and misinformation (i.e., non-factual unconfirmed sources, just opinions). We spend a lot of time trying to point out where mistakes are made only to be labeled as far-left liberals as if that’s a shot in the heart. Overall, what is lacking is critical thinking, understanding the root causes of a situation or problem.

One last thing. Every time I read that Biden is the worst president ever, I’ll remind everyone that 300 political historians rated Trump the third worst president of all time. So regardless of whether these grievers acknowledge Trump or not, they mimic him and the talking heads from Fox entertainment or wherever they get their material to post here or write unintelligent letters to the DG.

NOTICE: If you people don’t stop taking shots at one another, we will shut this forum down or prohibit the entire lot of you from commenting, and you’ll all have to make your comments somewhere else. Most of you are guilty of it to some degree. You know who you are. Stick to the issues and stop with the personal attacks. Do not address individual commenters. Make your comment about the issue and leave it at that. This is intended to be forum for debate and discussion, not for criticizing the individuals with whom you disagree. I have been told by many people that they no longer comment here for fear of being insulted or attacked. That defeats the entire purpose of this newspaper hosting this forum. Conduct yourselves like rational adults or take your issues somewhere else. Last warning. Mark Mahoney Editorial Page Editor

Thank you Mark for you input. I agree totally as you know where I stand on all this. You can’t make a mature comment without the name calling starting without and mature discussion what so ever. I was away from all this for years until you made it respectable but as you can tell it has gone downhill since then. If you close this down it will be sad but at the same time will discontinue the non stop Bullying that goes on with just a bit of exchange of views. Have always had a great respect for your oversight in this area. I know you will do what is right.

Mr. Mahoney, You paint with a very broad brush. I think many posters refrain from name calling and I notice fewer insults than I used to.

To state: “we will shut this forum down or prohibit the ENTIRE LOT OF YOU from commenting” seems to lump the innocent together with the guilty.

You write “Do not address individual commenters.” “Reply” is written in the upper right hand corner of the comment box which I assumed was there to direct posts to the comment above.

Telling commenters to “conduct themselves as rational adults” is calling us “irrational.” That is insulting.

Mr. Mahoney, you come across as a bully.

We are your customers, your subscribers, you should adopt the tone you expect from us. If this means I can no longer post I can live with that.

Thank you Mr. Mahoney, it was getting ridiculous that letter writers were being abused for simply posting their views.

Evidence of the caliber of some Trump enthusiasts sitting in Congress right now. Many should be expelled on the grounds of incompetence, lies, and failure to uphold their oaths to the Constitution:

Madison Cawthorn: “When we have a Sup Ct nominee who says she can’t define what a woman is, what has our country come to? It’s so easy – XX chromosome, no talkywhacker.” Video on Twitter

Sad times for our country with a man like this as part of our law-making body, the H of R.

I do believe his constituency is trying desperately to dump this winner

ChuckD March 28th, 2022 By the way, do you still maintain there’s a dark Liberal conspiracy here at the DG to silence the right?

“If what Mr. Mahoney said is true (that no one was banned) then we should see Mr. Marincic and Mr. Barney posting on here, otherwise he’s not telling the truth. “

To answer your whacko question, do you see Mr. Marincic or Mr. Barney post daily like they used to? I have maybe seen one or two posts from both of them in months. When someone has to go through Mr. Mahoney to get their posts approved they may not get approved because he doesn’t like them or he is busy doing his actual job. I know, I was moderated once, you can post 40 things in a week and have only a couple show up when they are no longer relevant, so you stop posting.

So your post is a lie and you know it, because yes he can post if it gets approved and it gets approved when it’s convenient for Mr. Mahoney and you know it. I also stand by that it should have been you people moderated not them.

I honestly think you don’t know the meaning of the word, “banned”.

It was the editor’s decision to monitor your posts. Based on the letters to the editor and posts on this site expressing extreme right-wing views, I see no evidence Mark Mahoney is monitoring some posters because of their political views. Are you willing to share with us the reason you were monitored so all can avoid making that mistake?

If you love the country you should and I beg you to realize the enormity of what happened on 1/6/21 – we had a president that lost an election ( fair and square) – the democrat party 150% out worked the republicans by grass roots campaign and were out to defeat President Trump. The other parts of the ticket up and down were won by Republicans (local, state, etc). So the results can’t be just false for Trump if they were false it would be all the ticket. So the President and some key advisors rallied thousands of kooky ppl and got them all fired up to disrupt or over throw the election certification process. This process is the foundation of our democracy. If someone were allowed to disrupt this process every 2 years, 4 years, etc what would that lead to?

Just because some people don’t like the outcomes of events doesn’t mean we can violently over throw the results.

You mean like comrades putin is doing in Ukraine joe ? That one’s going right over the American. Comrades heads Sir bubbas one and all

There were many abnormalities of the 2020 elections that were never explained. Mark Zuckerberg spent over $400 million on expanding mail-in ballots in swing states that overwhelmed the voting system. Zuckerberg has never had to explain his role in the 2020 election. And no one in Congress seems interested in finding out. How can you definitively say that an election that raised so many questions was won fair and square when there was no audit to prove one way or the other?

“Those courts didn’t accept those cases because the evidence presented did not show that anything nefarious had happened.”

No Chuck D you’re wrong! The lawsuits were dismissed without being investigated. That doesn’t make the courts corrupt, just weak. The way the media covered up the Laptop from Hell story while big tech made the story disappear is another example of how the scales were tipped in favor of Biden. The NYT has authenticated Hunter’s laptop after spending a more than a year claiming the Laptop contents were Russian disinformation. These are the facts!

Correction: They’re not your words, they’ve been repeated, verbatim, in the right wing media and echo bubbles. I’ve heard them all before.

No William. Those are just your words and emotions, and as we’ve seen, don’t amount to much in a court of law.

There were 70-80 election lawsuits. All tossed with nothing – that should be the largest weight that proves to you. But for arguments sake lets just say there was a mass production of ballots that produced 7-8 million votes for President Biden, if that was the case, why wouldn’t they have taken every local, state, & federal seat that was on the ballot? Instead- Republicans picked up seats up and down the ticket.

If you look up the mailers that were sent out in all the potential swing states, all the TV and radio spots – the Democrats had really one goal – defeat President Trump. Their error was not pushing the bottom and middle ticket also. So with all the mail in ballots President Biden took some 78% of mail in vote. Those are the facts!

Even after all that and you still believe President Trump was robbed our system doesn’t call for private citizens to charge the house and over throw the results. It calls to wait until the next election and change in by ballot not force.

I’m saying I don’t know if the election was fair and square. And without an audit, neither do you. None of these lawsuits had their claims litigated by the courts, as the lawsuits were dismissed without any official investigation that looked for fraud.

The republicans spent millions of dollars on multiple audits in a few states and came up with nothing. Actually, in Arizona they found more votes for Biden and less for Trump. In Texas, their Lt. Governor offered a million dollars for each case of fraud found. The Lt. Governor of Pennsylvania found I believe five cases, all republicans. I don’t know if the Texas Lt. Gov. every paid! The other red states gave up the idea of audits, but tried to un-certify the results of the courts said no.

Please, stop trying to litigate this. Those courts didn’t accept those cases because the evidence presented did not show that anything nefarious had happened. If you have evidence those courts were corrupt or derelict, how about showing your evidence? This is what the courts and the law say. That’s it. That’s all. The courts decide, not you. That’s how it works here.

Big thumbs up on that one Joe.

D Wayne P, If “this forum is a toxic joke” why do you continue posting on it? I would like to ask Ray Weidman and his supporters some questions about his letter to the editor:

“Our president, President Biden, thinks the American people are as stupid as he is as he lies his way through the day. At first blaming the oil companies, the shippers, the meat packers, the supermarkets, the drug companies, what next, Mickey Mouse?”:

How do you know Joe Biden is stupid? Considering he made it to the presidency of the United States from a middle class background and served honorably for decades as a senator and two terms as VP, that seems unlikely. How do you know what he thinks? There have been supply chain issues and they have contributed to inflation. Shortages have also occurred due to the pandemic and to some extent due to the Trucker’s Convoy in Canada.

“Speaking of appeasing, what’s he going to wait for, his pal Putin to bomb Warsaw before he does something beyond his phony sanctions?”

This is the first time I have heard the sanctions imposed on Russia described as “phony.” They were worked out with our allies in NATO. They are causing pain in Russia where the ruble is almost worthless, people are panic-buying scarce goods, and oligarchs are seeing overseas assets confiscated by western nations. The full effects will take time. What would you have Biden do beyond what he is doing in sending military and humanitarian aid to Ukraine? Declaring a No Fly Zone could result in direct confrontation between the U.S. and Russia, igniting a nuclear WWIII and annihilating life on Earth. Russia is already limiting its war aims from establishing hegemony over all Ukraine to territorial concessions in the eastern Donbas region of Ukraine, evidence NATO’s efforts are working.

“But wait kids, there’s more. Coma man’s second in command, joker in a pantsuit, can cackle her way across Latin America and now Europe. What a disgrace.”

The quote above speaks for itself as an empty expression of hatred for Vice President Harris based on nothing but emotion.

“I don’t fear annihilation of this country by Putin’s nuclear arms anywhere near as much as I do this disgraceful, inept, dishonest administration. The worst ever.”

I have questions in regard to this quote: Do you really believe life in America today is so bad you would prefer death by nuclear attack? Do you mean a nuclear attack is unlikely but the awful pain of living under a Biden administration is real and happening now?

“On day one he declared war on American energy, shutting down the Keystone Pipeline, drilling in Alaska, offshore drilling, and drilling on public lands.”

This issue has been explored and analyzed in depth and I will not belabor the issue any further.

Mr. Wayne, you dared have your own opinion in the echo chamber? You do know that comes with insults and degradation from the all-knowing. May God protect you, young warrior.

Oh I know that but these liberals are harmless and full of hot air. Let them rant all they want, I could care less. The way that treat people like Chris did earlier tells me everything I need to know about them. They can talk until their blue in the face but they’ll never shut my opinion down or yours. Believe me when I tell you this, If they could they would. It’s one big happy playground here in the liberal echo chamber, there’s enough toys for us all to have fun. Watch big Guy though, he might steal your toy when you turn your back.

Z, I’ll ask you the same question I asked DWP: Where in my post do you find me saying DWP has no right to express his opinion? Your post above is far more insulting than anything Guy or I posted today:

“you dared have your opinion in the echo chamber?” Posted as you echoed his sentiments.

“that comes with insults and degradation from the all-knowing.” Is that not an attempt to degrade and insult those who don’t agree with you?

Whoville: “Ray Weidman’s ridiculous, nonsensical ramblings are a prime example of a submission that should have gone directly into the trash”

President Biden is polling around 30% on all of the major issues concerning voters. Ray W’s letter reflects those numbers. The leftist comrottery on this platform gives its members a warped sense of reality that Biden’s presidency is doing just fine. If you have a problem with Ray W’s letter, how on earth are you going to cope with the results of Nov. 2nd?

See NBC news polling and article.

https://t.co/5ZhVT7gN9M

The inflation, covid, war, gas is wearing on Republicans, Democrats and Independents and when numbers drop below 40% whether its President Biden or Presidents Bush and others before him is telling erosion of core voters.

We have coped with Nov 2nd Bill you’re little group needs to now.biden is president Harris is vp live with it due polls fluctuate its the nature of the beast difference is Biden doesn’t seem to be wringing his hands about it he’s doing his job if it disappoints you that progress is being made don’t hide it behind warped support for Putin sorry bubba you’ll never sell that bizarre love fest you people have for that dude to me.

President George H. W. Bush polled at 88% after Desert Storm and a year or two later lost reelection. Reagan polled poorly with inflation and unemployment extremely high (often used recently to compare our current inflation rate, but the complete opposite in unemployment) and got reelected. Clinton had his Monica Lewinski problem in his first term and won reelection despite polling badly. So, there you go. Biden’s poll numbers now are no indication of the future.

Never said Biden’s presidency is doing just fine, but simply calling the president names and making fun of the VP’s laugh hardly makes a case as to why he’s doing a terrible job. If the sanctions against Putin are phony, then Ray should enlighten us as to what he thinks Biden should do differently instead of just whining and complaining. Bring something to the table and give the reader something to think about, or be silent. Not everyone’s opinion needs to be published.

You forgot one very important thing Ray, during a world wide threat of war, and National problems, we have a administration, namely Harris who refuses to secure our border. Every day, terrorists easily enter, fentanyl, which has killed more young adults then covid, human trafficking, toddlers being left in the dessert to die, and no one sees this as a problem??? Putin who is a animal is still smarter then they are and will use this area to put in place anyone he wants to carry out more chaos in this country. How safe are our electric grids??? Between cyber attacks and physical ones, not very. How out of touch they ALL are and should be charged with dereliction of duties for not keeping us safe. Just to be clear, I am not praising Putin, just stating a fact, he will take advantage, who wouldn’t???

Again, Ms Crisci arrives with her ragged bag of night-terrors and falsehoods. Let’s take a look:

– “during a world wide threat of war, and National problems, we have a administration, namely Harris who refuses to secure our border.”

This administration has a different approach in many respects. It’s dishonest to say “refuses to secure our border”.

– Fentanyl is a deadly scourge and according to the DEA, China is the primary source:

CHINA Currently, China remains the primary source of fentanyl and fentanyl-related substances trafficked through international mail and express consignment operations environment, as well as the main source for all fentanyl-related substances trafficked into the United States. Seizures of fentanyl sourced from China average less than one kilogram in weight, and often test above 90 percent concentration of pure fentanyl. https://www.dea.gov/sites/default/files/2020-03/DEA_GOV_DIR-008-20%20Fentanyl%20Flow%20in%20the%20United%20States_0.pdf

– “human trafficking, toddlers being left in the dessert to die, and no one sees this as a problem???”

“Desert”. Here on Earth we see it as a massive problem, I don’t know why it wouldn’t be where you live too.

– “Putin who is a animal is still smarter then they are and will use this area to put in place anyone he wants to carry out more chaos in this country.”

I have no idea where this is aimed, but it becomes clearer everyday that Mr. Trump was deeply beholden to Putin and compromised our national security to appease him. Certainly Putin has shown he can own the Republicans. Biden has done an excellent job keeping Putin contained without igniting a world wide conflagration, and I’m sure is dealing with pressures none of us can imagine as more of Ukraine is wrecked by this maniac.

– “How safe are our electric grids??? Between cyber attacks and physical ones, not very. How out of touch they ALL are and should be charged with dereliction of duties for not keeping us safe.”

Our electricity grid is very vulnerable, and it’s been that way going back to the invention of the internet. It should also be noted that this includes through two Republican Presidents who came directly from the oil industry and surely were aware, or should have been aware, how vulnerable we were (and still are). I point this partisan fact out because we know by now Ms. Crisci’s letters and comments tend to be mindless partisan attacks on the Democratic Party.

Chuck, your reply is baseless and again, China is the leading producer?? How do you think they get it here, through our southern border, who can’t get anything through there. Please, stop trying to support something that is so broken, you lose every time.

You should probably provide some facts to support your fears. This isn’t Parler, or Facebook where you blurt any bad feelings you have as if they were reality.

To be clear, what I support is recognition of why this is happening there, which VP Harris has by going there to try to address the political corruption causing these families to abandon their homes to save themselves. I also support a massive infusion of resources and money into the border security to bolster it, and still maintain our country’s ideals of welcoming immigrants.

Have you ever worked with immigrants from Central America, Denise? I have, elbow-to-elbow, shoulder-to-shoulder, face to face many times and it is absolutely true that these are some of the hardest working, dedicated, honest people I’ve had the pleasure to work with. Those are people we need here. We must find a way to make it work, and building walls hurts us as much as them. That’s what I support. What do you support?

Chuck D excellent fact filled commentary thank you for taking the time to address these statements logically and with fact based information. We need much more of this. Hopefully it will be read for what it is an attempt to help with the dissemination of factual information without a hint of bias or hysteria. Your efforts to educate are to be commended!

ChuckD, Thanks, and let’s hope everyone reads and gives some thought to your post. I think we all know what the problems are. We are looking for solutions. Thus far, Biden has handled Putin’s invasion of Ukraine well, consulting with our allies, implementing sanctions against Russia, and sending military and humanitarian aid to Ukraine.Trump has said and done things that indicate he may have ignored Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. Anyone who follows the news knows what I mean.

Trump’s infamous wall was an insult to Mexico and ineffective. Since Mexico never paid a penny it was never completed and what stands is a monument to bigotry. We need to treat immigrants more humanely, build adequate facilities to care for them, and provide adequate courts to hear their cases. We should build more entry points and monitor the border with surveillance equipment, drones, and border guards. We should grant citizenship to “dreamers” and their immediate families and develop clear paths to citizenship for legal immigrants. Our own laws mandate the acceptance of refugees and if warranted, granting them asylum:

“Asylum is a protection granted to foreign nationals already in the United States or arriving at the border who meet the international law definition of a ‘refugee.'”

If we decreased the income gap, making certain that no one had to live in poverty while others had the resources for a personal flight into space, I believe the root cause of drug trafficking and abuse would be eliminated There are other causes including mental illness, youthful adventurism, greed, and the human desire to alter consciousness. These causes would best be addressed through education and mental health care.
