Tuesday weather in New Jersey: cold winter and a few light snowfalls

Tuesday will be the bottom of the barrel, the coldest and "coldest" day of the week. Flakes will fly around New Jersey during the day, but no travel problems or large accumulations are expected.

As we enter December, there will be a brief warm-up event. But this will not last long, because there will be cold and windy weather on weekends.

We will discuss additional showers/snow showers in the forecast. However, there is no major storm system on the horizon.

The main driver of the weather on Tuesday will be a weak Clipper system jumping out of the Great Lakes, which has been tracking over New Jersey. More than 3 inches of fresh snow is expected in parts of Michigan and northern New York.

But the system is indeed crashing. In addition, snowflakes and raindrops will have to fight some very dry air in the atmosphere. So don't expect too much here-for most of New Jersey, I only expect light rain and light rain (at most). There may be dust or coatings on cold surfaces in northwestern New Jersey. But that's it-no travel issues.

At the same time, the hissing storm system will drag thick clouds into our sky. So this will be a cloudy day. It is also very cold, the high point can only reach more than 40 years old. It was definitely the chill in the air all day long.

Although the clouds will disperse on Tuesday night, we will have enough "blankets" above our heads to prevent the temperature from plummeting again. It will not be as cold as Monday night, and we should avoid a wide range of severe cold. The average low temperature is more than 30 years old.

Slightly better, although the temperature will eventually still be below the seasonal normal level. Look for a partially clear sky in the mid-1940s.

On Wednesday night, there will be a round of rapid showers in southern New Jersey. It might just be raining.

Warm up for a day! The high temperature on Thursday will enter the mid-1950s. We may even be over 60 years old in South Jersey. The only time we have entered a week with "above normal" temperatures.

This will not be a perfect day, because the sky is mostly cloudy to overcast. Although it looks mostly dry, another batch of showers will hit northern New Jersey later on Thursday (afternoon to night). Likewise, it may just be raining.

Back to the wind. The colder air returned on Friday, although it did not look like an earth-shattering "Arctic Storm."

Around the mid-1940s, the high point will eventually drop by about 10 degrees. Wind speeds above 20 mph will remind you that it is cold. It will become clear and dry.

We will keep the temperature below normal throughout the weekend, with sunshine and dark clouds on Saturday and Sunday, and more than 40 degrees.

Our next substantial storm system is still modeled to arrive around Monday, six full days later. The type and intensity of precipitation will be closely related to the exact storm track and (especially) temperature. So, for now, we declare it "worthy of attention" and wait for more certainty to be put in place when the forecast becomes more certain.
